This programme is aimed at those with a particular interest in the conservation of forests and woodlands rather than commercial management; in the 1st year students take a range of core modules designed to give a good grounding in the underlying principles and practice of forest and woodland conservation; as the course progresses the range of options increases; this allows students to study subjects as diverse as landscape ecology, woodland dynamics, conservation genetics, tropical forestry and the use of geographic information systems; tutors help guide students in selecting modules that give them the best chance of achieving career ambitions; if students decide to undertake a 12 month conservation placement, either in the UK or overseas, this may also form the basis for the final year project; students also complete a final year dissertation on a subject of particular interest to them; career development skills including information communication technology, teamwork and field skills are embedded in the programme.
