A one day introduction to forest gardening. For more information and bookins www.skillsforsustainableliving.co.uk An introduction to forest gardening with experienced practitioner Rick Cross, coordinator of the Cumbria Forest Garden Network. A forest garden is modelled on the structure of young natural woodland, using trees, perrenials, shrubs, herbs, annuals and other plants of direct and indirect benefit to people. Planting aims to maximise positive interactions with fertility maintained largely by the plants themselves. Gain ideas to start designing your own productive and low maintenance system. This introductory course will include a mix of classroom and outdoor sessions with plenty of discussion and question time, covering: * basic design of a forest garden * choosing plants and trees * potential yields * maintenance once the planting has been done * Case study – planning a new forest garden for Sunny Orchard Farm
