Design research, drawing and illustration skills and the ability to present and communicate ideas and concepts to a high professional standard are developed throughout year 1; this includes a series of shoe design projects focusing on a comprehensive range of footwear styles; technical shoemaking skills are taught to give an understanding of the manufacturing techniques involved in modern shoemaking and students make a range of prototypes of shoes.
Year 1; design research, drawing and illustration skills, and an ability to present and communicate ideas and concepts to a high professional standard are developed throughout the year; students will complete a series of shoe design projects focusing on a comprehensive range of footwear styles; modules include: complete footwear studies; integrated footwear studies; year two; the second year is about experimentation and putting into play skills learnt in the first year. Projects include Ladieswear, Menswear and Performance Sportswear, and have included projects set by companies such as Jeffery West, Paul Smith and Pentland brands; students also have an option in term two to take a Fashion Accessories module; modules include: Progressive Footwear Studies; Style and Colour Prediction; Technical Footwear Option; Fashion Accessories; this module includes a unique bespoke project which covers all aspects of made- to-measure footwear; year three; students will enter various competitions, including Lineapelle, Drapers and Bata, which lead to prestigious awards and encourage you to develop your graphic communication skills; students are also able to work with an external company and have the opportunity to explore your creativity; modules include; advanced footwear studies; and a major project.
