Study for a degree course in small class sizes, with 15-20 tuition hours a week awarded by a top 20 university and pay lower fees.
The course is for those employees who intend to act as First Aiders at Work under the Health and Safety Regulations (First Aid) 1981. A 3 day course covering a wide range of first aid emergencies to meet requirements for the HSE. The candidates will have to purchase a current First Aid Manual as approved by St John Ambulance, St Andrews Ambulance Association and the British Red Cross. On completion of training, successful candidates should be able to: Recognise the presence of major illness and provide appropriate first aid. Understand the role of the first aider including reference to: The importance of cross-infection, The need for recording incidents and actions, Use of available equipment. Assess the situation and circumstances in order to act safety, promptly and effectively in an emergency; Administer first aid to a casualty with: Injury to bones, muscles and joints, including suspected spinal injuries; Chest injuries; Burns and scalds; Eye injuries; Sudden poisoning; Anaphylactic shock; Administer first aid to a casualty who is unconscious (including seizure); Administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation; Administer first aid to a casualty who is choking; Administer first aid to a casualty who is wounded and bleeding; Administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock; Provide appropriate first aid for minor injuries. Following successful completion of the course, which will include a theoretical and practical examination carried out by independent examiners, the candidates will be awarded a certificate. Certificates last for three years. Before their certificates expire, first-aiders will need to undertake a First Aid at Work requalification course to obtain another three-year certificate.
