The course gives students the opportunity to explore and develop creative fine arts practice and also establishes the foundation of professional practice as a working artist; learners enhance technical skills in the traditional fine arts media of painting, drawing, life drawing and sculpture; the course is multidisciplinary, ensuring students also have plenty of opportunity to learn about and practise a range of other creative media, experimentation and exploration are encouraged; throughout the studies the emphasis is on expanding students� critical understanding of fine art and supporting the growth of ideas, thinking and philosophy on own creativity; central to studies is building knowledge of the business and marketing aspects of the art world; the school uses a studio system and students are expected to manage their time, workload and show increasing levels of responsibility and personal management as the course progresses; students are expected to play an active role in the school�s exhibition committee and work with fellow students on all aspects of the final, public exhibition at the end of the final year; the course combines the development of a solid foundation in the traditional media of painting, drawing and sculpture with the exploration and development of a wide range of other artistic media for example photography, ceramics, installations and public art; there may be opportunities for students to spend some time studying in Greece; students develop the technical skills and knowledge to practice as a fine artist in their chosen media.
Level 1: Introduction to fine arts; critical studies 1; introduction to photomedia; critical studies in the fine arts 1; 2D art processes: paint, drawing, print; 3D art processes: sculpture, ceramics. Level 2: Fine arts practice and presentation core; critical studies in the fine arts 2; 3D art: form and space; 2D Art: colour and experimental media; photomedia 2; art and urban environment; international study visit; external exhibition. Level 3: Advanced fine arts practice core; inter-disciplinary practices; critical theory in contemporary practice; personal project major core; final major exhibition.
