Course Description
The course has established an impressive reputation and is designed to enable artists to develop their art practice at an advanced level within an exciting and supportive environment. Successes include AHRC funded research degrees and professional achievements with one ex-student being selected to represent Wales in the Venice Bienniale 2007. The course consists of studio practice modules (75%) centred on Advanced Individual Practice. This is supported by a range of optional theoretical modules (25%) that assist you in the review, development and contextualisation of your practice, in relation to contemporary culture and current debate. During the PgCert, Advanced Individual Practice affords you the opportunity to develop your existing practice in relation to the theory option chosen. Research Methodologies and Professional Practice provide valuable support through briefings, lectures, studio and theory seminars and personal and group tutorials. Through the PgDip, Advanced Individual Practice enables you to develop and critically evaluate your practice in relationship to the seminar option you have chosen to follow. This option allows you to develop an appropriate context which forms the basis of your Contextual Research Presentation. This can be presented as an extended essay of 5,000 words or an equivalent project. The MA stage is exclusively practice-based and affords you the opportunity to develop your work towards its presentation in an appropriate form for a final exhibition, that is open to the public.
