Emphasis on drawing, use of the life studio and the structural use of colour are central to this course; in the 1st year and particularly during the first 2 terms, students are required to complete satisfactorily a programme which encompasses individual and group studio workshops relating to the intellectual and technical skills basic to painting and drawing and an organised introduction to the teaching and facilities available in the Fine Art Department as a whole; from the start of the 1st year until graduation each student works in close co-operation with a personal tutor; students may extend their interests into the areas of film and video; printmaking; sculpture and photography, in any way that is relevant to their main study; the course provides a permanent life studio for painting and drawing.
