Modules

Year 1: Students are introduced, through film making assignments, to the nature of film language and concepts of time and space; practical workshops in digital editing, camera and sound complement the projects; this is supported by a stimulating film history and theory programme. Year 2: students have the opportunity to specialise in 2 options in direction, screenwriting, cinematography, sound recording production and postproduction; they acquire advanced specialist skills in their chosen area through an engagement with projects that explore a variety of modes of presentation such as fact and fiction, avant-garde and counter style; history and theory programmes again complement the practical elements, leading to the choice of a dissertation topic for year 3. Year 3: This year is regarded as a professional, critical production year in which students research and develop a collaborative final project; they also produce a dissertation and the year is supported by an advanced seminar and workshop programme, with masterclasses and mentoring supported by the Skillset Screen Academy Wales.
