Students begin the programme with the core course and one option; in the second semester they take another two options; which is followed by a dissertation; each year we hold the annual Screen Conference in the summer, attracting leading names in film & television studies from across the world; our students have the opportunity to participate in those conference as well as to engage with guest speakers from the academy and media industries throughout the year; our core course introduces the breadth of film & television studies as a discipline whilst developing core research skills; and are taught by all staff working within the MLitt in Film & Television Studies, giving students access to a wide range of expertise and approaches.
The optional courses (vary from year-to-year) include: the history of critical writing on film & television; the child in film; film and movement; and multistrand narratives in the fiction film; students interested in media industries may choose options offered as part of the MSc in Media Management; and may also choose one course either from another related Masters programme, or from our undergraduate programme; and each student must undertake research, and write a dissertation of 15,000 words on their chosen specialist subject.
