The Film and Video Workshop is an educational charity for learners of all ages. We have 14 years of experience in providing education in filmmaking and the digital arts.

We offer accessible and affordable part-time courses in video production, post-production, animation, computer graphics and music technology. These courses are the perfect chance to gain basic skills or improve your level. Courses are offered at different levels from complete beginners to more advanced. Talk to us if you are uncertain which course is the best for you – our friendly and dedicated courses team will be happy to advise you.

Our courses are very practical and hands-on. Everyone gets the chance to practise with the equipment and theory is kept to a minimum. Typically the courses are between five and ten weeks long, with one 2 to 4 hour session a week. Some longer filmmaking courses are taught one whole day a week for 12 or more weeks. On these courses you also have the opportunity to book equipment out in order to make your own short film.

Many of our tutors are industry professionals. On our site we have a computer suite of 15 Macs equipped with a range of media and design software (Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Flash, Dreamweaver, Logic Express, Microsoft Office). We use professional level Mini-DV cameras for all our video courses.

We have Open Access sessions every Tuesday between 10.00 am. and 14.00 pm. You are welcome to come along to enrol or to find out more about our courses. During Open Access you can work on your own projects with technical assistance available if you need it. Open Access is free of charge once you have enrolled as a learner and paid the enrolment fee.

If you are already a practising filmmaker, find out more about our EXP TV scheme. EXP is a volunteer-run filmmakers’ collective offering equipment hire, editing time and organising screenings of the best work produced. We also run a time bank volunteer scheme for people wanting to gain experience with us.

We are based in Islington but our courses are open to all, unless otherwise specified. Specific entry criteria may apply for some projects. Bursaries are available.
