On this course you will learn the fascinating art of felt making combined with free machine embroidery to create your own stunning pieces of art or craft. Come and learn a new skill and add to your portfolio.
Felt is the oldest fabric known to man. Highly sophisticated felted artefacts were found preserved in permafrost in a tomb in Siberia, dated to 600BC. In the process of felt making, wool fibres shrink and come together to form a dense mat when subjected to heat, friction and a change of alkalinity - hot water, soap and lots of rubbing and rolling! On this course you will learn flat felting, box felting (ideal for making boxes and bags), seamless felting (ideal for making 3D pieces such as doorstops, cushions and water bottles) and nuno felting (ideal to making scarves). You will then use domestic sewing machines to decorate and embellish your work.
This course is ideal for beginners, although experience of using a sewing machine will be beneficial.
