This course provides students with the necessary practical and design skills to enable them to work creatively in fashion design and/or surface pattern design; the programme includes both practical and theory work as well as work-related study; students engage with design methods, drawing and visualising, pattern making, garment making, computer aided design and screen printing through intensive workshop-based learning; they are encouraged to develop ideas in response to a range of design problems involving garment making as well as flat pattern; students also learn about theoretical ideas and concepts enabling them to gain insights into contemporary design issues and to complete a design study demonstrating understanding of the cultural context of their work.
