There is high demand in textile design, decorative arts, homeware, giftware, fine art and illustration to create individual hand-printed images stylised by hand carving. This course reflects this demand as it is an introduction to lino-style print using vinyl relief print onto paper. Lino print has a raw, hand-finished richness that makes bespoke imagery and patterns stand out from the crowd. Every print is original and often has miniscule flaws that demonstrate the hand-made ethic.
The course is unique as you will use state-of-the-art equipment within the university, experience the use of a vast print workshop equipped to enable paper print and space to carve the vinyl sheets. You will learn how to create artwork using specialist cutting and carving tools, how to create a range of effects with mark-making tools and use rollers and relief inks to print. You will leave with a variety of experimental prints that explore overlapping and colour layering and that have considered designs in new colour ways.
