Course Description
What is EqualSkills?EqualSkills is a fun, informal and uncomplicated introduction to computers and the Internet for complete beginners. EqualSkills is designed to give an appreciation and understanding of computers and the Internet; to build confidence; and encourage further exploration and upgrading of skills in this area.What areas does the programme cover?The EqualSkills programme covers the following four sections:COMPUTER BASICS:Parts of the ComputerGetting StartedThe KeyboardUsing the MouseINTRODUCTION TO THE DESKTOP:DesktopWindowsCreating a documentFile types and File managementTHE WORLD WIDE WEB:The WWWWeb Browser Searching E-MAIL:E-mail accountsMessagesWhat will I learn?With EqualSkills You will acquire an appreciation of what a computer can do and what tasks can be executed online using the World Wide Web. On completion of the programme you will be able to send an email, use some simple programmes and surf the web to look for information on news, weather or hobbies. Is EqualSkills for me?EqualSkills is specifically designed for complete beginners and is open to anyone regardless of status, education, age, ability or understanding. How long does it take to complete?You will have up to 20 hours to complete (some people may be able to complete it faster than this). The whole programme is designed to be flexible and allows you to learn at your own pace.Will there be an exam?No. We know how intimidating exams and tests can sometimes be, so there is no formal exam at the end of the EqualSkills programme. Instead, a tutor will assess you on an on-going project basis during the programme.You learn and are assessed using a paper-based workbook. The workbook consists of simple and straightforward exercises and learning information. Candidates have a tutor, called a facilitator, who works through the workbook and deals with any problems that you might encounter.The workbook is a study aid and assessment document which helps the facilitator to check your understanding
