This degree programme is designed for biologists who wish to be able to relate basic biological mechanisms to real life situations; it concentrates on understanding the mechanisms by which organisms interact with each other, with mankind, and with their environment; the course focuses on responses at the whole organism level, integrating animal behaviour with the physiology of both animals and plants, but students may choose to broaden their experience to consider a range of scales of organisation, from molecular biology to ecosystem ecology; students spend the second year of this degree programme studying abroad at one of our partner universities.
Year 1: Core modules; evolutionary biology; variety of life; aquatic ecology; life in a changing environment; biodiversity and conservation; Spanish-Donana field course; environmental issues for the 21st century; interdisciplinary skills; environmental processes and systems. Year 2: Overseas study. Year 3: Core modules; global change biology (challenges and solutions); sustainable agriculture; plus 1 from; environmental biology dissertation; dissertation with work placement.
