This degree balances the study of English literature with the practical and theoretical analysis of different forms of drama and theatre; the study of English engages students' enthusiasm for reading and literature and introduces them to advanced critical thinking in the form of theoretical practice; the Drama course introduces a range of genres, playwrights and practitioners using both textual and practical exploration.
Year 1: Introduction to language and literature; literature of myth, legend and folklore; critical approaches; introduction to academic skills and research methods; drama and practice; theatre practice I and II. Year 2: Modernism to postmodernism; research methods; theatre practitioners; world theatre; theatre; presentation; modern poetry; children�s literature; detective fiction; Victorian and Edwardian literature. Year 3: Gothic and science fiction; dissertation; modern drama; practical; Shakespeare; postcolonial literature.
