The English part of the degree analyses historic and contemporary textual representations of place, theorising cultural practices of location and space and the effect of these on constructions of identity; the creative writing modules are specifically designed to develop the student as a writer of fiction; a critical but supportive environment is achieved through a combination of workshops, research seminars and e-learning; students are introduced to the practicalities of preparing and submitting your work for possible publication.
Literature and landscapes; research methods; the city: identity; sexuality and space; short story writing; novel writing; critical practice; researching humanities. Assessment: Assessment occurs through a variety of approaches; including written assignments; annotated bibliographies; synopsis of creative work; poster presentations; reflective blog; seminar presentations; portfolio; and adissertation.
