Course is made up of the following components: 3 compulsory modules in teaching English as a foreign language (essentials of the EFL classroom; theory and methodology of teaching English as a foreign language; teaching grammar and acquiring assessment skills); 3 optional modules from a range of literature courses offered by the English department; 15,000-word dissertation or structured dissertation task, bringing together the 2 strands of the MA: language teaching and English as an academic discipline.
Core: Essentials of the EFL classroom; theory and methodology of teaching English as a foreign language; teaching grammar and acquiring assessment skills; options: critical approaches to literature; black women writers; writing radio drama; journalism; writing poetry; writing for the theatre; the study and practice of film and television writing; the theory of writing and application of creativity; writing poetry; literature and art: analysis and analogy; renaissance emblem books and symbologies; medieval religious iconography; the novel, art and artis.
