This degree programme allows srtudents to pursue the areas of the English language which interest them, with a wide range of courses offering students the chance to specialise according to their strengths; focusing on the analysis of contemporary and historical English, students learn valuable analytical skills by using descriptive techniques in relation to social, cultural and cognitive factors; in all three years there are opportunities for emphasis on English in literature, the history of English, English in its social context, and English accents and dialects; language study and practice includes a year spent studying abroad, and this is complemented by a wide range of options that explore aspects of German society, culture, history and politics; students also take comparative courses which place these in a broader European context.
