The programme is for those with an interest in the English language and linguistics, including some or all of the following; students describe, analyse and research language; the course looks at the study of English as a medium of communication in the contemporary world, the English used in social networking sites, texting and instant messaging; studies the relationship between language, society and culture; observes the teaching and learning of English as a foreign and/or second language; looks at the use of English and other languages in multicultural communities; deal with the psychology of language, language processing and language disabilities.
Year 1 examples: Language and communication; analysing English 1; introduction to sociolinguistics; language learning; philosophy of language. Year 2 examples: Multilingualism and languages in contact; language and literacy; the film and the book; language attitudes and ideology; working with texts; a modern foreign language. Year 3 examples: Contemporary issues in language teaching; literacy�s in theory and practice; exploring language corpora; language and new media; a modern foreign language.
