Year 1: Principles of geology; rock forming minerals; observation and practical skills in both laboratory and field studies; geological mapping techniques; structural geology and terrain studies; igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. Year 2: Engineering application of structural geology; petrology; sedimentary processes and stratigraphy the effects of climate; engineering properties; behaviour of rocks and soils; site investigation techniques (geophysics and drilling methods); computer applications in engineering geology; hydrogeology. Year 3: Advanced coverage of soil and rock engineering; geographical information systems; independent project dissertation; risk analysis, remote sensing, ground investigation, site visits; 2-week study tour of engineering and mining activities usually in Scandinavia, France Or Portugal.
