Course Description
The Group is well known for its research contributions to speech, video, audio processing and coding, 2D/3D video processing and transcoding. Research areas include: scene analysis and interactivity technologies (for example, 2D/3D object modelling, tracking, segmentation, detection, feature extraction), advanced channel coding strategies, encryption, and digital watermarking techniques applied to video sequences. The Group is based in the I-Lab, a state-of-the-art and multidisciplinary research facility, that brings together researchers from different backgrounds, including communications, multimedia and human factors. Central to the I-Lab is a unique immersive audiovisual system, which consists of a 350-speaker 3D audio system and stereo display (7 metres across and 2.5 metres high); the first facility in the world to combine such advanced 3D audio capabilities with a vision-filling 3D display. The system enables cross-disciplinary research on future networked collaborative environments, with applications in the business, medical and military areas.
