About this course

This programme is for those wishing to teach in the post-compulsory sector (Further Education and sixth form) and is not suitable for those interested in teaching in schools; the aim of the programme is to prepare students to plan, implement, assess and evaluate teaching within post-16 education and undertake a full teaching role; all course work is related to the actual teaching practice situation, and this balance between theory and application underpins the programme; it is taught in 13 Partner Colleges across the North West and covers all the requirements of a DTLLS qualification (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector).

Modules

Initial assessment of literacy, numeracy and information communication technology (ICT) skills and commencement of the Professional Development Portfolio; completion of the threshold award: Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector; aligning teaching, learning and assessment; teaching and reflecting on own practice; including 75 hours of teaching practice placement within a subject specialism and 4 hours of observed practice; action research; professional values and inclusive practice; teaching and reflecting on others’ practice; including 75 hours of teaching practice placement within a subject specialism and 4 hours of observed practice; 40 hours per week (for part-time students, 20 hours per week) on course related activities: class contact, logged teaching, preparation for teaching, private reading, preparation for formative and summative assessment activities.
