This course provides a work based top-up route for students who have taken a foundation degree in early years; it balances theory and practical subjects through a wide range of learning experiences; the course can lead to progression opportunities for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
The course comprises 8 modules at level 6 and covers the following areas: the national primary strategy, which places a special focus on creativity; how children learn and develop; progression from the Foundation Stage to Key Stage 1 of the National Curriculum in English, mathematics and science; aspects of management, current issues in education and multidisciplinary working; the opportunity to research and develop a particular area of interest; the student studies modules which may include: progression and transition in the core curriculum; assessment for learning; creativity across the curriculum; critical issues; extended long study.
