This course draws on a range of disciplines including psychology, health care, educational studies and sociology in order to understand this formative period of our lives; the course aims to give students a firm theoretical underpinning to their existing practice.
Year 1: Introducing the senior practitioner (double); learning, development and the foundation stage (including child development 1) (double); inclusion in the early years; communication, language and literature; mathematical development; physical, creative development, knowledge and understanding of the world. Year 2: child development 2; child protection; socio-emotional impact of health issues on children; management in early years; roles of other professionals in the early years; the effective senior practitioner.
