This course provides students with an advanced conceptual understanding of the legal principles of: European community law; the EU, and the legal cultures; and main legal systems present in Europe; and, when relevant to the subject, elsewhere; students eventually learn to understand comparative law as a modern discipline in its own right, with its history, development and new challenges (globalisation, emergence of China, harmonisation of European law etc); students also undertake a comprehensive review of more specialised subjects, as well as general and specific approaches to comparative law; this course seeks to develop our students' critical, analytical and research skills, thereby ensuring they are capable of working in the field of EU law as a lawyer, regulator, legal adviser or researcher with government or international and business organisations (including the EU administration), and as an academic.
