Based on the UK Adult ESOL Core Curriculum, this qualification is aimed at learners seeking to: • Expand their knowledge of day to day situational and general English • Enhance their interpersonal communication skills in a British community • Improve their understanding of life in the UK • Improve their grasp and dexterity in a new, or familiar but poorly learnt language • Meet English language criteria for naturalisation / UK citizenship • Achieve personal and economic independence • Take full part in day to day social and cultural activities These learners generally include: • New refugees and asylum seekers • Long term immigrant settlers who need to acquire adequate language skills • Long and short term visitors from the European Community • Full and part time learners who wish to study English as a means of accessing training or qualifications
