This degree focuses on the relationship between theory, knowledge of contexts and histories, with some practical experience; each year has a module that explores major ideas and developments that have influenced drama, theatre and performance; this strengthens students' work in practice-based modules, where they can study performing, devising, directing, scriptwriting, design and technical theatre; in years 2 and 3, students can select specialist areas to focus on, including applied drama, studio theatre production, scriptwriting, theatre acting, or a dissertation in a subject of their choice.
All years: Core modules; introduction to drama, performance and media; devising-collaborating-performing; technology and performance; text and performance analysis (methods and vocabularies); themes in drama; scriptwriting (theatre, TV and radio); improvisation and role play; technical theatre; big picture, small screen; studio theatre production; performance and society; directed theatre; production (design and technology); directed theatre production (performance); the sundance generation (British and North American independent cinema).
