This programme provides students with an opportunity to study a wide range of dramatic writing across a range of periods; the programme also allows students to study contemporary adaptations and re-productions; special themes of the MA include: experimental critical and theatrical practice, staging possibilities, and the consideration of how stage design might affect performance.
1st semester: compulsory modules: research methods; theatre and theory (performance and culture); 1 optional module from: early-modern texts in performance; texts in performance (contexts); 2nd semester: modern and contemporary texts in performance; dissertation; 1 optional module from: special subject 2; Renaissance playhouse practice; history and history plays: description, desire and prescription; staging difference: theatrical representations of race, gender and identity; the texts of Jacques Derrida.
