Year 1: This year lays the groundwork for students to be able to work independently as a documentary photographer; students photograph people and research and develop picture essays on a wide range of contemporary subjects; workshops cover the technical expertise students need: medium format cameras, lighting, portraiture, picture editing, processing and printing. Year 2: Students initiate projects that interest them; subjects are photographed in greater depth and students are expected to produce work to a professional level; there are practical workshops in large format studio photography, exhibition printing, digital scanning, printing and book production; lectures include topics on professional studies, ethics, marketing and promotion; students are encouraged to find relevant work placements at the end of the year. Year 3: A professional year in which students produce 2 large bodies of work, forming the basis of your graduating portfolio; students also research and produce a major written text; both components are supported by a series of workshops, seminars and individual tutorials.
