This programme combines a broad interdisciplinary insight into development theories and strategies with knowledge and skills relating to disability studies; students follow the common core programme and option modules which deepen knowledge across the areas of both development and disability, and include project and research skills in the context of developing countries and with respect to disability issues, social policy, politics and disabled people.
Compulsory modules: Debates on disability theory and research; disability and development; development theories, strategies and issues; disability and global development dissertation ; optional modules: global genders; conflict, complex emergencies and global governance; democracy and development; democratization and multi-party politics in Africa; famine and food security; gender, globalisation and development; political economy of resources and development; rural development (theoretical and policy issues); other wars (conflict in a gendered perspective); the EU and the developing world; political transitions in south east Asia; politics of trade and industrial policy; development management techniques; research methodology for development; 'race', identity and culture in the black Atlantic; social policy, politics and disabled people; from conception to the grave (health in a global context).
