About this course

Duration: 2 Days (10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.) Location - Union Jack Club, Sandell Street, London, Waterloo, SE1 8U

Digital Photography Course for Beginners is a 2 day course with 30% theory and 70% practice, exercises, practical examples, impromptu demonstrations, outdoor shooting to try different effects and the opportunity to discuss and ask questions after each topic. The course is suited for those who wish to understand and use digital cameras in a very effective manner.

Both digital SLR (single lens reflex – cameras with interchangeable lenses) and compact cameras are covered but with emphasis on Digital SLR. The course is for beginners, for those willing to take a refresher course in the basics of digital photography and digital cameras or for those going on holiday who want better results. If you don't have a DSLR camera yet but still want to attend the course you can use one of our spare semi-professional DSLRs for the duration of the course. Please let us know if you wish to use one of our cameras.

Composition (basic rules - what makes an effective photograph)

By the end of this course you should be able to: make use of the advanced shooting modes (especially manual mode) on your camera take correctly exposed photographs in different situations (people, cityscape, landscape, etc.) begin to use shutter speed, aperture and depth of field creatively begin to obtaining different effects use the pop-up flash effectively begin to think about combining elements and composing a photograph make informed decisions about resolution, file sizes and formats

For all courses / workshops you will need a Digital Camera a DSLR or a Pro Compact Camera with Fully Manual Exposure Mode. If you are not sure about your camera's capabilities please contact Ion to discuss about this. If you haven't got a camera yet but still want to attend the course you can borrow one of our spare semi-professional DSLRs + lenses + flashgun + tripod for the duration of the course. If you are planning to buy a new camera, we can offer advice on what camera and lenses to buy according to your budget and the photography style you wish to pursue.

Additional entry requirements

You only need to bring your camera, lens, battery and memory card. If you don’t have a camera yet, no worries, we will provide you with a DSLR + lens for practice during the course.
