This degree programme recognises that contemporary games technology is used for a huge range of purposes, such as education, marketing, military or medical simulation, and architecture ; this programme teaches the design chain and prepares students for the commercial computer and video games industry; from drawing on paper to developments in Photoshop, and making 3-dimensional models to texture and rig, students learn sound production, narrative structure and character; students also explore how digital games have evolved in genre and design to become complex experiential-narrational texts that dramatically alter the way we understand stories and information.
Year 1: core modules; contexts of practice 1; game play, theory and practice; game play, theory and practice; drawing for games 1; 3-dimensional models for games; audio for games; professional practice and personal development planning. Year 2: Core modules; professional team brief; 3-dimensional animation for games; narrative structures; personal project; drawing for games 2; external design; contexts of practice 2; work based learning (experience and evaluation) Year 3: Core modules; complementary studies; research experimentation and development; creative and professional development; creative and professional conclusion; contextualisation.
