This course equips students with specialist knowledge in design engineering and manufacturing management; it emphasises strategic and visionary design, innovative use and application of technology; students explore the development of a commercially relevant design philosophy and the necessary knowledge in manufacturing management; the course encourages students to investigate relevant and emerging design issues together with the challenges offered by commercial constraints and adopt a hands-on approach in tackling such tasks; they are also encouraged to examine business issues relating to processes and materials, CAE, validation and testing methods, sustainable design, CAD visualisation and simulation, rapid prototyping, and new technologies, amongst others and managing such operations in commercial settings.
