We will examine an international design movement that originated and flourished in England between 1880 and 1910. It was led by the design pioneer and writer William Morris as a reaction against the state of decorative arts. The conditions under which they were produced led to advocation of truth to materials and traditional craftsmanship inspired by the romantic ideas of Medieval Britain. Key pioneers will be discussed as will their profound influence on other parts of the world and other design movements.
