This course focuses on capturing the spirit and energy of movement and dance. Essentially a practical course, it equips photographers with the knowledge and skills to plan and execute their own dance shoot. Briefly looking at the history of dance photography and leading practitioners in the field, students will be encouraged to start developing their own particular style. Shooting in the studio, students will work with professional dancers using improvisation techniques and choreographing shots specifically for the camera. The course is open to both film and digital users. Shoots will be followed by a darkroom processing and printing session. Alternatively, digital users may bring their own laptop and image editing software for retouching.
