This programme provides students with the opportunity to examine the system of policing in the UK in-depth within the context of the overall process of criminal justice; it enables them to analyse and discuss issues in relation to the Police, policing, and the governance of crime and security; more specifically, students are able to develop analytical and research skills in connection with policing issues; students also investigate the tensions and contradictions present within police work, research the issues arising from these problems, and write about them in a structured and academic manner.
Core modules: Criminal justice processes; policing 1 (the nature of contemporary policing); policing 2 (police accountability); researching crime and justice; dissertation; optional modules include: contemporary imprisonment; international criminal justice; cybercrime (computers and crime in the information age); transnational crime.
