Anyone with an interest in computer animation. No specific experience of digital animation is assumed. You must be methodical since the assessment requires that you complete all tasks satisfactorily. You will learn digital animation with Adobe Flash CS5.5. The skills covered include frame by frame animation, shape and motion tweening, transitions and effects, adding sound to your animation, timelines, drawing and text tools. Although the majority of the practical work is with Flash, you will also have the opportunity to experience stop motion animation, time lapse photography, cut out animation and flip book animation. Selling your ideas to your clients is vital to any animator; therefore a key part of the course is producing mood boards, visualisation diagrams, spider diagrams and storyboards. How will I be assessed? Assessment is via an extended piece of coursework in the Spring term. The course is graded pass or fail. To pass you must satisfactorily complete all practical and written parts of the assessment. Those who successfully complete the iMedia award have the opportunity to work towards an additional iMedia unit in 2D computer game production using Gamemaker in the Summer term.
