Modules

Year 1: Developing skills in the student's selected art form makes 30% of the programme; students gain a foundation of knowledge and understanding through focussed modules in the core course areas: human development and play; effective interaction; and principles of therapy; the purpose of this year is for students to become familiar with the main approaches used in developing creativity and expression with people in different stages of their development through the lifecourse. Year 2: This year has a broader and more applied focus; it provides the opportunity to explore key aspects of professional work in the modules therapy in context: families and culture; and working creatively in education settings; the students' own personal awareness, professional values and identity are developed through a highly experiential module: interpersonal development: self in relation to others; students continue to improve their art form skills, with a clear focus on their application in professional settings; a key part of the year is the placement that gives students an opportunity to integrate their developing skills and understanding in a supportive setting. Year 3: Dissertation; research to evaluate effectiveness; a specialist module relevant to a contemporary issue, such as children�s mental health.
