Students work in many genres including poetry, drama, children�s writing and prose fiction, learning to draft, edit, and polish and reflect on personal work; all joint Honours students have the opportunity to study the history of cinema, and to analyse both classic and contemporary films from a variety of countries; students start the course as a film buff and end it as an expert in the history, criticism, business and theory of cinema.
Creative writing Year 1: Exploring creative writing; writing identity. Year 2: Writing and context; writing place. Year 3: Professional writing skills; portfolio or specialism plus negotiated study. Film studies Year 1: Introduction to film; introduction to media, culture and society. Year 2: International cinema and film theory; film in America and Britain, 1946-1979. Year 3: Film studies dissertation; contemporary British and American cinema; exploitation cinema; silent cinema; French cinema.
