This course is an integrated approach to the theory and practice of 4 art forms providing the opportunity to specialise in one of these subject areas (drama, music, dance, visual art); intended for qualified teachers, lecturers and administrators, based in the UK or overseas, the programme focuses on the theory and practice of arts and creativity both inside and outside the classroom; in particular, emphasis is laid on the relationship of the arts to each other and to the school curriculum as a whole; the programme also examines the educational use of the arts to meet special needs and the changing role of arts education in a multicultural society.
Compulsory modules: teaching and learning (art/dance/drama/music); creativity and the arts; introduction to educational research; dissertation; options chosen from: the arts and educational futures; arts in the curriculum; international perspectives (inclusion, disability and diversity); critical perspectives in inclusive and special education; foreign language testing and assessment; developing and appropriate language teaching methodology; teaching English to Young Learners; language course, syllabus design and English for special purposes (ESP); evaluating and designing print and e-learning materials for TESOL; developing language teachers.
