This course is designed to enable students to undertake a Doctoral training in Counselling Psychology leading to registration with the Health Professions Council as a Counselling Psychologist and eligibility for the title Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society; the programme provides training in the theory, research and practice of Counselling Psychology, and is supported by a range of placements and professional development activities.
Year 1: trimester 1: counselling psychology; philosophy, theory and practice; person-centred/experiential counselling and psychotherapy; research enquiry into counselling psychology; psychotherapeutic competencies: reflection and development 1a; personal and professional development; trimester 2: critical enquiry into counselling psychology theory and practice; therapeutic approaches in mental health; psychotherapeutic competencies: reflection and development 1b; personal and professional development; research dissertation; year 2: trimester 1: psychotherapeutic competencies: reflection and development 2; advanced research enquiry in counselling psychology 2; critical enquiry into counselling psychology theory and practice 2; personal and professional development; year 2: trimester 2: advanced research enquiry in counselling psychology 2; critical enquiry into counselling psychology theory and practice 3; psychotherapeutic competencies: reflection and development 3; personal and prfoessional development.
