This course aims to introduce you to the process of costume design for theatre performance and film. The course emphasis is on character analysis and the visual rendering of character, supporting the dynamics of text, creating visual relationships and the communication of ideas through to the eye of the spectator. The course covers the analysis of script or synopsis for the scene breakdown and character breakdown chart, historical research, the role and responsibility of the costume designer, creative interpretation and concept development, storyboarding, communication through presentation of ideas in 2D and 3D, pre-production and production processes and the development of your critical eye. You will finish with a combination of practical overview of the industry requirements and a portfolio of project work reflecting the costume designer's creative process. This course welcomes learners from a wide range of disciplines, those wanting to develop, diversify and extend their current creative experiences towards costume design for performance.
