This module surveys approaches toward both the still and moving image in the practice of contemporary art. Looking at a range of photographic, film and video works reaching back to the last century, participants will examine the discourses which structure lens-based practices in contemporary art and their reception by institutions in the art world. It aims to provide them with a critical and theoretical framework in order to better understand the status of the image in contemporary art and culture.
