This course has replaced the following foundation degrees offered by the university: Architectural technology; building surveying and property management; construction management; quantity surveying and commercial management; this course gives the relevant vocational knowledge and skills for a career in any sector of the construction industry; there is a vocational emphasis to the course that is underpinned by a relevant amount of theoretical study; students are taught using a mix of methods, including studio, field, laboratory, and project work, lectures, seminars, tutorials and industry work experience; the course includes an interdisciplinary group project that simulates the process of a construction project from start to finish; students also undertake a two week work experience placement in any of the major construction disciplines; students also learn about construction design and technology, health and safety, the management of construction projects, and the regulations and law relating to land and property.
