About this course

This programme has a natural progression to BSc (Hons) construction and is well-suited for students intending to advance their careers to management roles in the construction industry. In year 1: it will cover foundational theories and practices related to the roles of a trainee building technologist, architectural technologist, surveyor and construction manager. By the end of the first year, they will have gained significant knowledge and skill that will make them more confident in discharging their responsibilities in various industry roles as well as being fully equipped to progress to the second year of the programme. Areas of study: building construction, applied construction mathematics, material science and sustainable construction, surveying methods and management, health and safety management, professional communication studies. In year 2: the modules provide opportunity for further investigation into construction management practice. Appropriate level 5 coverage is provided on building production process, building services, project programming, resource management and construction contract administration; alongside the relevant legal and regulatory frameworks. The emphasis in the second year is on evaluation and analysis of subject specialist concepts and procedures. By the end of the programme they will have gained significant sector skill knowledge and competence to undertake middle to senior management responsibilities. Areas of study: advanced building construction, construction finance management, building regulations and policy enforcement, construction planning and programming.

Additional entry requirements

Students must have 80 UCAS points, a Level 3 qualification in Construction or a related subject together with GCSE Maths and English at C or above, mature learners without minimum academic standards will need to demonstrate relevant work placement during interview with portfolio/documented evidence of work based projects undertaken.
