Course Description
This FREE course is for people who are thinking of returning to learning after a break from education or are already on an Access course. It will help you find out more about what it could be like to study at Northumbria University. The course is aimed at anyone who is interested in the materials and techniques of paintings, drawings and prints, their care and conservation. Artists, historians and scientists. Also anyone considering working in museums or art galleries, in collections care management and/or the conservation of cultural heritage. The course covers how to examine works of art to assess the materials and techniques that have been used and the condition of the work. The use of techniques such as ultra violet light, infra red light, x-radiography and sampling will be explained and case studies used to illustrate the value and application of technical examination to establish date and condition.
