Conference Interpreting MA: This course is a professional Master's course aiming at training conference interpreters. The programme includes lectures, seminars, presentations, practical interpreting and simulated events such as mock conferences. The course offers a wide range of language combinations paired with English: Arabic, French, German, Italian, Lithuanian, Japanese, Mandarin (Chinese), Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian and Spanish. Further language combinations with English may also be available,


Core modules: the interpreter's skills and tools; interpreting theories and research for interpreters; conference interpreting 1; the interpreter's professional environment and work placement; conference interpreting (EU/UN context); conference interpreting 2; research interpreting project.

Additional entry requirements

2.1 Honours degree; or a 2.2 with professional experience in interpreting; applications with substantial experience as a professional interpreter but no Honours degree are considered; applicants with certificate and diploma level qualifications in English and 1 other language accepted; MA level English and 1 or 2 other languages accepted; applicants are invited to the university to attend an entrance aptitude test (international students can take the test remotely) consisting of exercises involving translations in and out of English, presentations in the mother tongue and foreign languages, consecutive interpreting into the a language (mother tongue) and essay writing plus an interview with the admission tutor and interpreting lecturers; applicants whose 1st language is not English require Cambridge certificate of proficiency in English (CPE) grade A or IELTS 6.5 minimum with a minimum score in all component parts of 6 or TOEFL (old exam) 630 minimum or TOEFL (new exam) 267 minimum.
