This course is for those who have skills in textiles and want to develop narratives for their work and move towards conceptually-based pieces. It is ideal for those considering post-graduate level studies in fashion and textiles, or those who simply wish to explore their current practice in a supportive and focussed environment.

Group tutorials will be the main format of the course, where you will discuss and show the development of personal ideas and stories through sketchbooks, the use of photographs and samples. You will research and develop a personal, individual project based on an agreed group concept, and use research and your own textile work to develop a new piece. Using a journal or sketchbook you will explore a wide variety of materials and their possible messages and meanings, creating a materials language. Through research and discussion you will explore examples of work by people engaged with textiles, and you will develop ideas for narratives for your own work and record the use of materials, processes and make links with other artists. Finally you will explore possible places and areas to exhibit or install your textile work.

Upon completion of the course you will have developed your portfolio, created innovative new ideas for further development and improved your network of textile practitioners.
