This course emphasises the software aspect of computing but also gives an understanding of the underlying hardware; analysis, design and programming are essential topics, together with subjects such as databases, data communications and operating systems; the course introduces students to the business world and provides the skills needed to operate in a professional environment.
Year 1: Programming essentials; it toolbox; business organisation and practice; systems analysis and design; programming applications; information and communication technology; technology and change; group design workshop. Year 2: Advanced programming concepts; systems analysis and design; database systems; network communications; group design workshop; operating systems; information and project management; option module. Year 3: project (double module); 6 option modules: advanced database systems; broadband multimedia networks; intelligent web design; internet security; computer graphics, advanced java.
